AUSTIN Terrill Manufacturing Co. Inc. (Terrill) received the Employer Award of Excellence for the Workforce Solutions Concho Valley (Concho Valley) area at the Texas Workforce Commissions (TWC) 19th Annual Texas Workforce Conference held Nov. 18-20, 2015 in Dallas. The Employer Award of Excellence honors employers that are actively involved with their local workforce board and have made a positive impact on employers, workers and the community.
Terrill, a nationally known supplier of architecture woodwork and casework products, provides custom-designed turnkey solutions supporting projects across Texas and the nation including schools, hospitals, office buildings, hospitality buildings, churches, banks, municipal buildings and other commercial construction.
When Terrill struggled with high turnover rate, reduced business, and low profits, it turned to Concho Valley for help. As Terrill embraced the workforce solutions initiatives, the companys turnover rate essentially stopped; the number of employees grew from 38 to 59 full-time and 20 temporary workers, earning wages 20 percent above the local average pay, while the company more than doubled production and profits. By building a close partnership with Concho Valley and the citys economic partners, Terrill is now planning for the future.
These exemplary employers recognize the importance of establishing strong collaborations with the workforce system, which in turn helps them grow their businesses and contribute to the local economy, develop a skilled and well-paid workforce and accomplish great things in the area they call home, said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Ronny Congleton. I congratulate Terrill Manufacturing and Workforce Solutions Concho Valley for their partnership and service to the workers of Texas.
Concho Valley was also recognized for outstanding board performance, receiving a $30,000 Performance Incentive award for Workforce Investment Act Dislocated Worker Training-Related Employment. The TWC Performance Incentive awards recognize boards that display increased accountability and improved efficiencies. Monetary awards for achievement in these categories will be used to enhance workforce service programs during the next year.
Concho Valley is one of 28 local workforce boards located throughout the state. Concho Valley services Coke, Concho, Crockett, Irion, Kimble, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, Reagan, Schleicher, Sterling, Sutton and Tom Green counties. The primary goal of TWC and the workforce boards is to respond to needs of Texas employers and workers through locally-designed, market-driven workforce development initiatives and services. All employers, workers and job seekers are eligible to take advantage of these services.
